Recently, new members of the Independent Pilots Association have been telling us that they did not feel they had received the level of support and representation they would expect from their previous pilot trade union when, as an individual, they needed help in the past. As a member of the IPA, we will represent you.
Our members benefit from a realistic and pragmatic approach to employment matters. If you are involved in a disciplinary/capability or grievance matter, you will have our support and representation at the meetings which by law, entitle you to have a work colleague or trade union representative present. We will advise you of the strengths, and weaknesses of your case, and what the likely outcome might be.
In cases where there is an element of wrongdoing on the part of our members, we will ensure that a fair process is followed and that any sanction applied is proportionate to the allegations.
We do not cherry pick the pilots that we represent. As long as you are a full IPA member, and the issue is not pre-existing at the point of joining us, you will receive help, guidance, and representation.
Some matters which cannot be resolved or have an unsatisfactory outcome for members can be progressed to the Employment Tribunal; however, there are some matters that once the internal process (including any appeal) has been exhausted, that will be the end of the matter. Conversely, there are other matters that are not suitable for the grievance process, and it may be that the only option is to explore proceedings in the Employment Tribunal. We regularly review employment cases as new evidence or information may come to light once we are involved which changes our view on your case.
With a 24/7 helpline, access to experienced and knowledgeable staff whose only interest is acting in our members best interests and a network of aviation specialists. The IPA will ensure that you have the help you need when you need it. We do not rely on third parties to assist our members, resulting in a consistently high level of service. We do not have historic ties to any particular airline, and have knowledge across the whole aviation industry, both fixed wing and rotary.
The IPA is the only truly independent trade union for pilots that will ensure that when you need help, you really do have it, as an individual, or collectively at one of the companies which recognise the IPA.
