Peter
Jackson - General Secretary of the IPF
Of late a Senior Flight Engineer on the A300 B4 with HeavyLift.
Initialy commenced my aviation career as a 'rigger' apprentice (89th entry) at RAF Halton subsequently working on Britannias and Comets at Lyneham where I came into contact with Air Engineers, thought I could do that. Training took place at Newton and Weeton and converted on Beverlys then was invited to become a helicopter crewman and served out in Singapore and Borneo on both Whirlwinds and Belvederes, interesting but did not do much for my career, returned to UK and was subsequently converted onto Britannias, leaving the RAF in 1969.
Ater a stint manageing Marshalls working party at RAF Colern undertaking the C-130 wing corrosion rectification programme I entered civilean flying serving on, Britannias with Llod International and IAS, CL-44s with Tradewinds, VC-10s with BA (the day I started training they started chopping them up), DC-10s with Laker,B-Cal Charter/Cal Air/Novair (same company they couldn't decide on a name), Exalibur and African Safari, B-747s with Virgin and finaly A300s with HeavyLift.
I served as the B-Cal Charter company rep with the MNAOA (Merchant Navy and Airline Officers Association) taking the whole Flight Engineer membership from the MNAOA into Balpa where I served on their National Council. I finaly saw the light and joined the IPA in 1998 becoming a Director in 2000 and Chairman of the IPF in July 2001.
May 61 I completed my Airframe Fitter Apprenticeship gaining an ONC. and gained Chartered Aeronautical Engineering Status in 1972. Obtained a HTEC in Electronics and Microprocessors in 83 after the demise of Lakers. Invited to become a Law Society expert Witness in Oct. 88.
I have been married to Sally since 1965 and we have two children and two grandchildren.
Interest include, besides the IPA/IPF, Geology, Gardening, Couse and Fly Fishing.
Anyone got a job for a long in the tooth FLight Engineer who just wants to fly as it beats working for a living, just don't mention I have had five companies go bust under me.
